What a fun week!!!!!!! Yes I got the ukulele and I was so happy! The lady we live with always texts us when we have a letter or package and so i was like is it shaped like a ukulele? And she was like I can’t tell you! So when we went home and it totally was, i was so happy! The children’s hymn book has the notes and Hermana McKinlay taught me how to tune it. And so everything is happy in the ukulele department. Sometimes we play/sing hymns for people we teach 🙂 yea seriously it’s freaky how soon I will be home!!
Monday night we went to visit A who we have had two lessons with. She has an autistic daughter and we mowed her lawn one time and gave her a Book of Mormon and then last week she said she had read some of it and had questions so we clarified and she said she would keep reading. So we were stoked to see her today and she answered the door looking distraught. Her husband had told her that he didn’t want us to visit anymore… We didn’t even get to meet him but she said he doesn’t like when any missionaries come. She felt so bad and she was like you have done nothing wrong and I like you but I need to respect my husband. She is such a cool lady who wanted to learn and be closer to god , and her husband won’t let her. She said she would keep reading the Book of Mormon and praying. And we were like well okay, maybe we will see you someday who knows.
On Tuesday we talked to this nice lady and then we left and her son came running after us with capri suns and we talked to some other cool people and we had a really delicious dinner which was the beet salad. And we slept at the mission home! Then we went to the temple super early on Wednesday and that was refreshing and so pleasant. The temple is such a cool place of so much peace.
And then the day just got better cause we went to the taco truck that we always went to when I was in Portland. And it was as good as ever. Then we finally got back to hood river and we were so unusually tired like cause we had woken up earlier than usual and I don’t even know but we were so tired. But we knocked some doors and talked to people and literally the tiredness went away. It was like a miracle.
Thursday was my comp’s birthday and we did some service for a member. We helped her paint her basement and they have such a cute house. And they were so nice and then at night we visited the Bs and T told us he is going back to Mexico like next week. Really classic. We teach people and then they go back to Mexico. But we got to talk about prophets and how God always has prophets to guide his people…except in the great apostasty. But anyway, general conference is so soon and we get to listen to the prophet’s council for the world!!
A really cool lesson we had this week was with A. We have been teaching him for a while and he is so nice and ready to learn. We invited him to pray and ask God about if there is only one true church and every week we follow up and ask if he feels like he got an answer but he is kind of sad and says no. So this week we taught him about the gospel of Jesus Christ, faith, repentance, baptism, Holy Ghost, endure to the end. And he asked us how we felt the Holy Ghost and I like explaining it cause it makes me feel good and remember/ reminisce on good experiences I’ve had. And then we asked him and he explained like how he feels and we asked when we felt those feelings. He said well I feel it when we talk about God like when you guys come and teach me. And I was like ahhhh that’s the answer. Well I didn’t scream hahaha but I was excited.
Last night we had a few minutes so I felt like we could stop at a member’s home and share a lil spiritual message. They gave us cookies and homemade bread! Score! I am pretty sure the spirit always guides me to food hahhahaha
Anyway, it was a fun week. Thanks for all you do to make the world better. I love you all and especially HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EVAN!!!!! Have a cool week!!
We just went to multlohmah falls as a zone. Super touristy and super beautiful. I love nature. Sometimes I just get chills when I look around and it’s all green and fresh. It’s like the spirit or something, feeling the spirit is so pleasant. So often in life things are confusing and it’s hard to know what to believe and what truly is good. Thank goodness we have those simple feelings of the spirit to guide us and show what is true. So I guess the conclusion is nature is good and true hahhaha idk. But I like it.
Hermana McKinlay noticed that I try to dress patriotic whenever possible. It’s true. On 9/11 we had interviews with president and those were delightful like always. He always has such kind things to say and what not. He encouraged me to keep staying happy and like try to never get discouraged. I pretty much had come to that conclusion recently and so it was nice to get a confirmation and I guess like his approval/advice. Then at night there was a lil relief society party at Nancy’s which was actually at our apartment so we helped out with that and even did a ukelele musical number. Campfires are good. And the sky is so clear you can just see stars on stars. I really am so blessed to be right here right now.
Something cool that happened is we went to this house cause it said they had been taught by missionaries before and so there was just like 2 men outside petting horses and stuff so we talked to them and they were nice and one had a really solid understanding of churchy stuff and then their friend came who actually lived there and we had met him a few weeks ago at a different house holding a mango. Anyway, it was sweet and they said they perform in rodeos so maybe they were like famous rodeoers. Who knows though.
Anyway, things are good. My comp is great. The church is true. I like seeing all the people going to school in the school bus and not having to go to school right now. Have a cool week!
On Tuesday we decided we finally had the courage to see this lady and hoped that her son wasn’t there. Cause last time he invited us to a rodeo and it just wasn’t good. So anyways, we went in the afternoon and he wasn’t there and she was like “where have you been?”. Anyway, we taught about the restoration and at one point I shared a scripture that like talked about the life of Jesus Christ and when I asked her what it was about, she was like it means I should get baptized. So I was just like yeah! Exactly! Hahhaha that was a good answer too. She’s sweet and gives us exotic foods.
And then at night we met L, a Christian lady who is related to two other ladies we are teaching. And she was sooo nice and genuine and happy about life and church.
Another funny/good lesson was we had a member come out with us to visit a lady who doesn’t really come to church. Well, we were walking to the door and somehow we didn’t see the HUUUGE dog until we were way close and it was frightening but it was a nice dog, just really big and wanted attention. So we screamed a little and then the owner came out and said we could talk to his mom. And the son was actually way nice to us too. Anyway, after the lesson, the lady was like “are all of your lessons that interesting?” And we were like “yeah pretty much”, like literally nothing goes like we plan it, but that’s fun.
Saturday night we got to help people butcher their cow. Well, actually they killed it the day before but when we stopped by they were like slicing it up outside with that thing I’ve seen workers at the grocery store cut meat with. And they had some cool friends over so we talked a lil, and helped a lil, and it kind of grossed me out a lil. But hey, now they have a year’s worth of meat in their freezers. Carne asada to the max.
And yesterday we stopped at someone’s house and they were cool. I got the recipe for this thing I ate in the Mexico MTC but I didn’t know what the name was.
Today we hiked in Washington and it was absolutely way too pretty to be real life. Like so much green and at the top was a view of the Colombia River. And we ate blueberries which someone had given to us. It was a great moment. But then again like every moment is great. Every moment has a possibility to be great and adventurous and fun. And if sometimes it isn’t, we can change our attitude or something. I have learned probably way too much in the time I have been on my mission. It’s actually a really good thing though. Cause I have tons to learn about. I’m also going to try and be more quiet and talk less and be more observant of other people and things. Anyway, life is amazing and exciting. The more time you are outside the better. I love you,!!
Gooood morning!!! Important things first: On exchanges Hermana Villalobos started teaching me how to play the ukelele and Hermana McKinlay has one too that she is teaching me how to play. Transfers are this week and me and Hermana McKinlay are both staying here 🙂
They aren’t in a drought here so everything is so green.
Sorry I think it’s impossible for me to do good emails two weeks in a row. This week was nice though. I went on exchanges to Vancouver and got to see some old friends (old as in a year ago I was there) which was really pleasant. We taught R about the Temple and we are trying to help her feel prepared so she can go with the youth in September. We taught A about the spirit world cause last time he asked where we go when we die. And I always like talking about the spirit world and just like we are missionaries here, there are missionaries in the spirit world teaching the people that never got to hear about the gospel. God’s plan really is perfect. Sometimes it’s hard for us to see the eternal perspective but it makes all the challenges worth it.
I taught this lady last year when I was in Vancouver and on exchanges we got to visit her and she remembered me.
Ohhhhhh okay Saturday was so good, we were trying to visit a few different people but no one was home so we were like what the heck let’s pray. And then after we prayed and waited and tried to assess how we felt, we decided to try this guy who had grown up in the church but now is less active and actually the way we found him was neat cause we tried the address it says in the directory and just when we got there someone pulled up and we were like does N live here? And they said no and just told us how to get to his house but the directions were like loose I guess you could say cause we didn’t know the area that well but we found it! He was busy that day, anywaaay, so we decided to try him on Saturday and he opened the door and we got to know him as we talked a little on his porch and then his wife came home and we went inside and shared a scripture and they were like we haven’t seen missionaries in 3 years and they said we can totally visit them more! And also the wife is sisters with this other lady we teach sometimes, and her kids are actually the ones who wouldn’t let us leave that one time that I sent the video of.
And yea I’ll end on that cause it was awesome. I love you! Have a chill week!
